If there’s one thing I’ve learnt over the years, it’s that the best part about fishing isn’t always the fishing.
It’s the people.
Sure, we all love the excitement of a screaming reel, a fish hitting a lure, or coming home with a feed. But when I look back on my favourite memories, the catches aren’t always the first thing that come to mind.
I remember the laughs.
The banter.
The road trips.
The conversations that somehow only happen when you’re standing side by side looking out over the water.
Some of my best memories have come from fishing with my brother, mates, family, and workmates. Not because every trip was successful, but because every trip gave us something to talk about.

Some days we caught plenty.
Some days we caught nothing.
And somehow the stories from both seem to get better every year.
There’s something about being outdoors that brings people together. The phones stay in the pocket, the distractions disappear, and for a few hours the only thing that matters is where you are and who you’re sharing it with.
Fishing has introduced me to lifelong mates.
It’s strengthened friendships.

Created memories.
And given me moments I’ll never forget.
That’s a big part of why Bagged Out exists.
Not to celebrate who caught the biggest fish.
Not to show off highlight reels.
But to celebrate the people who make the journey worthwhile.
Because years from now, I probably won’t remember every fish I’ve caught.
But I’ll remember who was standing beside me when I caught them.
The mate who never lets you forget the fish you lost.
The brother who’ll still bring up that one trip he out fished you on years later.
The workmate who became a lifelong friend after enough hours spent on the water together.
To me, that’s what this lifestyle is really about.
The fishing brings us together.
The mateship is what keeps us coming back. And if there’s one thing worth celebrating, it’s that.
